The purpose of the Maine Classical Association shall be to serve the interests and needs of teachers and friends of Latin and classics at all levels of instruction, to serve as a network for teachers of Latin, and to build, maintain and promote classics programs in Maine. The association holds both a fall and spring meeting as well as periodic lectures and events. A newsletter is published three times per year to announce classical awards, honors, and events. The purpose of the council is to serve the needs of its members and friends, to improve the quality of social studies education in the state, and to promote the teaching of social studies at all levels of instruction. MCSS annually sponsors a fall conference and supports other social studies-related events throughout the year. We have a list serve which distributes an electronic newsletter bi-monthly that contains professional development activities, teaching resources, grant opportunities and other information. The Maine Counseling Association represents professional counselors in Maine. Its purpose is to enhance individual human development and to advance and promote the discipline of counseling. Affiliates of MeCA include: the Maine School Counselor Association, Maine Clinical Counselor Association, Maine Career Development Association, and Maine Admissions Counselors. An annual conference, regional meetings, public relations efforts, and regular newsletter promote professional counseling.

The Maine Forensics Association promotes the development of articulate leadership among secondary students throughout Maine. Each student has a wide range of speaking styles from which to select, each with its own particular emphasis. Exposure to material ranging from contemporary politics to classical literature fosters the students' appreciation of great thinkers and their works. Students are then encouraged to fully master the nuances of these great works, thereby allowing them to present the original material, to present an educated analysis of the material, or to debate the strengths and weaknesses of the material. Presentations, Mock Congresses and Debates are conducted in a competition format and are assessed by volunteer judges from throughout the state.
MAINE HEALTH OCCUPATIONS EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION - MHOEA

MHOEA is the professional organization of secondary Health Science Career educators and postsecondary CAN instructors. The organization is committed to the development and support of relevant programs that meet local, state and national standards and encourage opportunities for students to continue their education in a health profession.
MHOEA works directly with the Maine State Board of Nursing (MSBN) and the Maine CNA Registry to ensure that all state and federal requirements are followed. Members are directly involved in any changes in the CNA curriculum and CNA testing. Members are involved in a variety of statewide initiatives to increase interest and enrollment in postsecondary health education programs.
MHOEA, in partnership with the Anatomy Department of the University of New England has developed interactive anatomy lessons that are broadcast to Health Science Careers students across the state via the ATM system.
MHOEA members meet during the school year and participate in an intensive three-day workshop each summer at UNE.
Communications between members is facilitated by Roanne Seeley RN, office of Career and Technology Education (624-6742).
